The five shortlisted titles are:
• Young Samurai: Way of the Sword by Chris Bradford
• Wilma Tenderfoot & the Case of the Frozen Heart by Emma Kennedy
• Frozen in Time by Ali Sparkes
• What’s for Dinner, Mr Gum? by Andy Stanton
• Blood Hunters by Steve Voake

How do I take part?

Following the launch of the Award at the Southampton's Children's Book Festival on Wednesday 23 June, copies of the books will be available in school libraries and public libraries throughout the City. Ask staff for details.

How are the books chosen?

A long list of 13 titles was compiled from recommendations made by children and library staff. Following extensive reading and much debate the list was whittled down to a shortlist of five.

The aim of the award is to:
Promote the enjoyment of reading
• Encourage children to recommend their favourite reads for others to share
• Recognise some of the best books first published in 2009 by British authors

To cast your vote, write a review and find out more about the shortlisted titles visit the voting page

The closing date for votes is Monday 1 November 2010. The winning title will be announced soon after.
