Southampton loves sharing books!
Southampton’s Favourite Book to Share Award springs into life again this May, now in its 11th Year; this award, encourages parents/carers and their young children to share some exciting new picture books together and vote for their favourites.

Sets of the five shortlisted books are available to read in all the city’s libraries, along with the voting slips and copies will be available for loan too. Voting takes place until the end of August and the winner will be announced in October.

The shortlisted books were chosen this year by our Children’s Librarians who share books with pre-school children and babies all year round at our busy story and rhyme sessions across the city’s libraries.

This year the 5 new shortlisted books are:
Find out more about the authors and books at the websites below

• Oh No George! by Chris Haughton
• This is not my hat by Jon Klassen
• Boo Boo Baby and the Giraffe by Eileen Browne and Emily Bolam
• Lunchtime by Rebecca Cobb
• Wild Animals by Charlie Gardner

I really hope that families with young children will enjoy sharing these super new books; sharing stories brings people together and it’s great to be able to find a few moments in a day to share a special book.

Last year’s favourite book to share was Tiddler by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
We had over 1250 votes last year in libraries from carers and their children
