Learning Centre

The Learning Centre is based in the Central Library with facilities also available at Bitterne Library. Both venues offer training in a variety of computer and Internet courses with qualified, experienced tutors ready to provide help and support.

Monday - 10.00 - 12.00; 1.00 - 3.00pm
Wednesday and Friday - 10.00 - 12.00
Thursday - City Limits only - 9.30-5.00pm

Bitterne Library
Wednesday and Friday 2.00 - 4.00pm

Courses available at the Learning Centre

Computer keyboardYou can do any of these courses at Central Library or Bitterne Library. Please see the document below for a full list of details about each course including date/time, costs, location and duration.

First Steps in IT - £20 - four week course
No experience necessary and you can work at your own pace.

• Using a keyboard
• Using a mouse
• Using email - time will be spent setting up an email address for you
• Using the Internet safely
• Using online searches
• Public Services

Further Steps to IT - £20 - 4 week course
You will need some experience of computers, or have completed the First Steps in IT

• Learn to use the Internet to shop, research and job search
• A basic introduction to setting up folders on PC or memory stick
• Create and delete folders (file management)
• Social networking e.g. Facebook, keeping in touch with family and friends
• Introducing text editing using WordPad
• Investigating technology (a look at mobile phones, buying a computer, choosing a digital camera and printing

Word 2012 - £20 - 4 week course
Lots of hands on practise with worksheets and exercises

You will learn to:
• Open/close documents
• Insert text
• Save documents
• Change fonts
• Page setup
• Check spelling/grammar
• Print
• Insert pictures/images.... and much more

E-Bay - £5 - 2 hours

Using your Laptop - £5 - 2 hours
You will need some experience of using computers

Shopping Online - £5 - 2 hours
You will need some experience of using computers or have completed the First Steps course

• How to search for and order things online
• How to pay for things online
• Booking tickets
• Searching for holidays
• Security measures and laws to protect you when you shop online

Family Workshop - £5 - 2 hours
Activities for parents and children
