Park Events

GatekeeperThere are many events that take place in our parks and open spaces during the year. Here are details of our forthcoming events.

The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery drop-in - Saturday , 19 April 2014
The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery, will be hosting a 'drop in' at The Hawthorns Centre on Saturday, 19 April 2014 between 10am - 1pm, when you can come along and meet some of the members and find out about the history and wildlife of The Old Cemetery.

Volunteers also have access to the burial database and cemetery maps for those wishing to locate a particular grave or research their family history. Tel: 07538 888 655 for more details.

Common Management Walk - Tuesday 6 May 2014 2pm
If you have ever wondered why we cut down trees in certain areas or why the grass is left longer on some part of the Common, then join the Land Management Ecologist on this regualr monthly walk. The walk will visit areas of the Common that are designated as the main conservation areas and are managed to enhance the wildlife habitat whilst still being accesible for people to enjoy. We are happy to visit areas of the Common by request. Please let us know at the beginning of the walk.

Please contact the Hawthorns Centre for further details.

Regular Park Activities

There are several regular walks that take place in our open spaces:-

A regular Common walk takes place on the first Tuesday of the month starting at The Hawthorns Centre at 2pm. The walk is led by the City's Land Management Ecologist and you can choose, at the beginning of the walk, which areas you would like to visit. Wear good shoes as they are often off the path, although the walk can be tailored to any mobility needs.

The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery host a regular 'drop in' on the third Saturday of the month between 10am - 1pm at The Hawthorns Centre. Along with information about the history of the cemetery and some of it's more renowned occupants, they have access to the burial database for those researching their family history.
