Park Events

There are many events that take place in our parks and open spaces during the year. Here are details of our forthcoming events.

Litter Pick and Picnic on Peartree Green - Saturday, 6 September starting at 10.30
Join the Friends of Peartree Green to help maintain the green. Meet at 10.30 by the swings. All equipment and refreshments supplied, just wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather.

Bat Walk on Southampton Common - Saturday, 6 September 7pm
This popular event will visit areas of the Common to watch the nocturnal displays of these flying mammals. The walk will last for approx. 1 hour and will be off the paths over uneven terrain. Please wear suitable footwear and dress for the weather. We start at The Hawthorns with an introductory talk, before setting out onto the Common. We will then return to the Centre for a delicous burger or hotdog. Walk is not suitable for children under 10 years old. Tickets in advance from The Hawthorns Cafe.

Common Orchid Walk - Wednesday, 10 September 1pm
Join the Land Management Ecologist to find the Autumn Ladies Tresses orchids on Southampton Common. These delicate, highly perfumed orchids flower during August and September so we are certain to find some. Meet at The Hawthorns Centre.

The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery drop-in - Saturday , 20 September 10am - 1pm
The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery, will be hosting a 'drop in' at The Hawthorns Centre on Saturday, 20 September 2014 between 10am - 1pm, when you can come along and meet some of the members and find out about the history and wildlife of The Old Cemetery. Volunteers also have access to the burial database and cemetery maps for those wishing to locate a particular grave or research their family history. Tel: 07538 888 655 for more details.
