Rain and wind in the later part of October caused a few problems with broken branches but the trees still managed to hold on to their leaves! Autumn is a lovely time to get out and about in the fresh air to enjoy your local park or perhaps discover a new open space in another part of the city.
Winter can be quite a harsh time for wildlife, as the temperature drops below freezing and food is scarce, so we have invited Prickly Pals, Hedgehog Rescue along for a weekend to raise some much needed winter food supplies. Come along and meet some of their winter boarders and have a go at the trails and crafts. There is no charge but please bring along a can of meat based dog or cat food to help the rest of their prickly pals get through the winter. There will also be a small sale of hedgehog themed stocking fillers. Saturday 30 November & Sunday 1 December, 11am - 4pm at The Hawthorns Centre.
A regular common walk takes place on the first Tuesday of the month starting at The Hawthorns at 2pm. The walk is led by the City's Land Management Ecologist and you can choose, at the beginning of the walk, which areas you would like to visit. Wear good shoes as they are often off the path, although the walk can be tailored to any mobility needs.
The Friends of Southampton Old Cemetery host a regular 'drop in' on the third Saturday of the month between 10am - 1pm. Along with information about the history of the cemetery and some of it's more renowned occupants, they have access to the burial database for those researching their family history.
There will be no 'drop in' during December but will resume again on January 18 2014.
Events in the parks are free (except where indicated).
