You may have noticed some works being undertaken just south of the underpass on The Common. This is phase 2 of a project to separate The Common's ditch water from water contaminated by run off from The Avenue.
This water can contain salt and other pollutants from the road and there is concern that this has been causing problems for the Common's wildlife, including the legally protected great crested newt.
The works should last about a month and result in non-contaminated water being available to keep the Common's Rollesbrook and newt lake (Model Yachting Lake) topped up.
