About The Quays Swimming and Diving Complex
The Quays 'Eddie Read' Swimming and Diving Complex is located in the heart of the city centre. The venue offers top-class swimming, diving and fitness facilities. Whether you want to improve your lifestyle, health or general wellbeing, learn to swim or dive or be active with your family, The Quays has something for everyone!
The Quays has a pay and display car park available for customer use (please ensure you have adequate change for the machine). On the bottom of the printed car park ticket is a tear off slip which on presentation to the venue reception at the time of payment will entitle the bearer to a discount of £1.10 off any activity priced over £2.20.
The Quays are currently enrolling new swimmers onto swimming lessons for the upcoming term. Contact reception on 023 8072 0900 to book a place ASAP. Limited spaces are available.
Due to customer comments we have now installed secure lockers in the gym and on poolside purely for storing valuable items such as wallets, jewellery and keys. These lockers charge a refundable £1 deposit.
Please note: all Street Dance classes at The Quays are cancelled until further notice. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
Free swimming for pregnant women
This scheme was launched at The Quays on Sunday March 14 2010 and is supported by Southampton University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Key facts
Swimming is often recommended by doctors and midwives for many reasons:
- The water supports your weight whilst helping your back and giving your heart, lungs and muscles a gentle workout
- Swimming can reduce your urge to smoke
- Overweight mothers who change their diet and increase their physical activity levels during pregnancy can improve the lifelong health of their children (study from the University of Southampton)
- Swimming can improve women’s health and reduce the risk of Gestational Diabetes and Pre-eclampsia
- Exercise in water minimises joint stress and in turn can improve the delivery process of having a baby as well a speeding up recovery
