The Freedom of Information Act 2000 is intended to promote a culture of openness and accountability amongst public sector bodies by providing people with rights of access to the information held by them. Southampton City Council should endeavour to provide as much information as possible about the request however certain information is exempt under Freedom of Information rule and therefore will not be divulged. Under this Act Southampton City Council is obliged to provide information it holds to any person or body on request within 20 working days.Freedom of information disclosure log
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 ('the Act') came info force on the 1st January 2005 and gives the right to request information held by public authorities. Anyone has the right to ask public authorities for any information they hold, including people living abroad, non-UK citizens, journalists, political parties, lobby groups and commercial organisations.
Publication scheme
Every public authority will be required to adopt and maintain a publication scheme setting out the classes of information it holds, the manner in which it intends to publish the information, and whether a charge will be made for the information.
