Details of service:

Compiling and publishing the register of electors.

During August and September each year every household in the City is delivered an electoral registration form. This form is required to be completed by law and must include details of all eligible persons who will be living at your property on 15th October in that year. The form gives clear guidance on who should and should not be included.

Anyone who fails to provide the information or indeed supplies false information may be liable to a fine of £1,000.

The Register of Electors will be compiled from the information received and will be used for all Parliamentary, European and Local Government Elections held after 1 December 2005.

The Government has recently introduced new legislation which controls the use of information provided for the electoral register. The information can only be used for voting, credit reference, jury selection and law enforcement purposes.

Commercial organisations can only purchase those parts of the register which contain the names of persons who have indicated they have no objection to their details being sold on. Full details of the new arrangements are included in the registration forms.

If you have difficulty in completing the form or have any doubt as to qualification the Electoral Registration staff will be happy to assist. They can be contacted at the Civic Centre, telephone 8083 2245 or e-mail [elections@southampton.gov.uk]

If you are a hearing impaired caller and have access to a minicom please telephone 8083 4193. You should be aware that the minicom number will not respond to ordinary telephones.

If you have mislaid your form you can download a new one (please see above under related documents).
