Index of Multiple Deprivation 2007

The Department for Communities and Local Government have released an updated version of the Index of Multiple Deprivation (IMD). The report looks at poverty over a range of areas as deprivation is not just from a single cause. The report splits the information over nine domains:

  • Education skills and training

  • Crime

  • Income

  • Employment

  • Health and disability

  • Barriers to housing and services

  • Living environment

There are two other domains that are part of the income domain. These domains measure income deprivation affecting children and older people.

The IMD 2007 brings together all of these domains into one place and makes it possible to look at all domains over the whole country. In this index Southampton is ranked 91st out of 354 Local Authorities (1 being the most Deprived).
