Standards and Governance Committee
All local authorities are obliged to have a Standards Committee. They are required as generally to promote and maintain high standards of conduct within the authority and to assist members of that authority to observe the authority's code of conduct.
In addition, they are specifically required to:
advise the authority on the adoption or revision of a code of conduct
monitor the operation of the authority's code, and
advise members of the authority on matters relating to their code of conduct
The Council’s Standards and Governance Committee has additional functions, as set out in the Constitution, namely to monitor and review the Council’s Constitution.
The national Standards Board for England has issued Guidance on Standards Committees - see link on right hand side.
