The Right Worshipful Mayor of Southampton, Councillor Brian Parnell
Councillor Parnell was born and lived in Southampton most of his life, he was educated at Taunton’s Grammar School, left to join the family Menswear business in Shirley Road. He went to Theological Institute and then Pastored for eight years the church he now attends. Became a magistrate in 1977.
Councillor Parnell served with the Council from 1979 – 90 representing Freemantle Ward and from 1992 – 94 representing Shirley Ward.
He has lived and worked in Freemantle Ward for over 40 years. Councillor Parnell ran a menswear business in Shirley Road. His past experience includes being Chairman of various schools, appointed as a magistrate in 1977, member of the Community Health Council, Vice Chairman, Chairman and President of the Test Conservative Association. Councillor Parnell is married to Mary, have two children and four grand children and are now semi-retired.
Councillor Brian Parnell became the 786th Mayor of Southampton on 14 May 2008 following his term as Sheriff of the city.
The Mayor’s Charities for the year are Dreamwall, Dreamwall is a charity which has had significant success with supporting, developing and engaging vulnerable young people, and Street Pastors.
