Councillor Stephen Barnes-Andrews was elected as 785th Mayor of Southampton on Wednesday 16th May 2007.

The Mayor chose ‘Saints in the Community’ and the Salvation Army ‘Wells for Africa’ Campaign. He hosted the Mayor’s Charity Ball in Southampton Guildhall this year and managed to raise over £7,000 during the evening for his two charities. This well attended event has now become a fixture in the City’s diaries.

During his year of office the Mayor has been fortunate enough to attend the naming ceremony of three new cruise ships launched at Southampton. They were Cunard’s Queen Victoria, P&O’s Ventura and Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas. The cruise industry continues to play a major role in the life of the City for both the civic and business community.

2007 was the 25th Anniversary of the Falklands War and Councillor Barnes-Andrews hosted a visit from HMS YORK, who with veterans of that war and others took part in a march through the City after attending a service at Holyrood Church.

His Worship has attended many events this year from hosting a visit from HRH Duke of Gloucester when he visited the City to attend a Citizenship Ceremony, to launching Southampton Voluntary Service’s Annual Toy Appeal from the Civic Centre in December. The year of office of the City’s First Citizen continues to be a very varied one.

Councillor John Slade was elected as the 784th Mayor of Southampton on Wednesday 17th May 2006.

This year's Mayor chosen charities, Tenovous, Piam Brown Ward and the Philippine Community Fund as well as other small local charities to support in his year of office. Monies were raised at this year's Annual Mayor's Charity Ball which took place in March in The Guildhall. Three hundred people attended this year's event including representatives from many local businesses as well as local people and mayors from other areas of Hampshire.

One of the events that the Mayor attending this year was the Commemoration Service for the 95th Anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. We were very pleased to welcome representatives from Cobh, Liverpool and Cherbourg who attended the commemorative weekend. The Mayor rode a bicycle to one of his engagements as part of a campaign to boost green communiting in the city and has attended engagements across the city involving young people starting out in life as well as taking part in the Over 50's Cricket match.

Councillor Edwina Cooke was elected as the 783rd Mayor of Southampton on Wednesday 18 May 2005.

The Mayor chose Leukaemia Busters as one of her charities for this year and has also raised money for several other small local charities. One of the ways in which money was raised during the year was by re-instating the Annual Mayor’s charity ball in the Guildhall. This took place in March and was attended by local people as well as mayors from other areas of Hampshire.

The Mayor had been to many different events across the city during the year. At the beginning of her term she had the pleasure of awarding the Freedom of the City to the Normandy Veterans Association and Burma Star Association on VJ Day, and followed this with awarding the Freedom of the City to the Ship’s Company and Officers of Queen Mary 2. From entertaining visitors from abroad in the Mayor’s Parlour to attending local summer fayres and riding a ‘Bucking Bronco’, her year in office was very varied.

Councillor Dennis Harryman was elected as the 782nd Mayor of Southampton on Wednesday 23 June 2004.

Councillor Harryman was very busy during his year. He chose Friends of Countess Mountbatten House and Second Chance Animal Sanctuary as his charities to support during his year and he hosted several events, including a Black and White Ball, to help raise funds for them.

This mayoral year saw the Mayor attending the launch of the new P&O cruise liner Arcadia, as well as attending events on both the QM2 and QE2. In addition to this he welcomed many people to the reception room at the Civic Centre that included a visit from HMS SOUTHAMPTON and welcoming students from Las Vegas that were on an exchange visit with Bitterne Park School. One of his last engagements of his year was to host the city's VE Day events.
