Within 28 days of their election, Councillors are required to register their financial and various other interests in a register maintained under section 81(1) of the Local Government act 2000 by providing written notification to the Authority's Monitoring Officer. Councillors are also required to keep the Register updated within 28 days of any change occurring.

The declarations are public documents and can be viewed on the individual Councillors' pages. They can also be viewed at Member Services, Civic Centre, Southampton, SO14 7LY during normal office hours. For further information you can contact member.services@southampton.gov.uk

Gifts and Hospitality Register

Councillors must declare any gifts or hospitality over the value of £25 received when they are acting in an official capacity within 28 days of receipt. The Gifts and Hospitality Register is a public document and can be viewed at the above office.

Declarations of Interest at meetings

In addition, Councillors are required to declare any interest that they may have relating to any item of business on an agenda at the start of the meeting. If, subsequently, the discussion takes an unexpected turn, they must make a declaration as soon as it becomes apparent to them that they have an interest. Declarations of Interest are recorded in the minutes of the meeting and this requirement to make such a declaration applies even in the event that the interest is already entered on the register referred to above.

Further information is available on the agenda papers for Council, committees and panel meetings or you can contact democratic.services@southampton.gov.uk
