The Equality Standard is a guide to help us understand our customer's needs and build equalities into all the work we do.

Every area and service has been working through the five levels of this guide since 2004. So far we are all on track to get to level four by March 2008 and level five by 2010.

We have written a policy that sets out how we will work towards ending discrimination. The policy outlines our aim for equality for everyone. We have also written a plan that explains how we are going to do this.

Equality Schemes

To meet our legal duties we need to show how we are working towards equality and challenging discrimination. The actions in these schemes will help us to do this.

Equality Standard Action Plans

As well as having our Equality Schemes, we also have a set of action plans. These show in more detail, the work each part of the council will do to meet our race, gender and disability equality duties.
