Details of service:
From 1st April 2006, the government has made concessionary fares free of charge and has asked local councils to work with bus companies to make this happen.
In Southampton, the concessionary bus pass is being replaced with the city's council's Smartcities card.
From now on, in order to receive free concessionary bus travel you will need to be in possession of your own Smartcities card.
Application forms are available on First, Solent Blue Line and Uni-Link buses, at the bus companies' ticket offices, the city council's Gateway one stop shop and main reception in the Civic Centre, local housing offices, libraries and leisure venues. Or you can download an application form from the link below.
Applicants need to complete the form and return it in person to any library, local housing office or the Gateway one stop shop.
Please bring along with you:
- One form of identification, such as a pension book, drivers' licence or passport
- A proof of your address, such as a household bill, bank statement or credit card bill no more than 3 months old
- One new passport picture
- Proof of benefit (this is only required for proof of Disability Living Allowance or to apply for a free leisure pass)
Smartcities cards can also offer holders leisure discounts, access to city library services and other benefits.
How to get more information:
Compliants should be forwarded to Smartcities Office.
