Road and footway works and maintenance

The city's roads and footways need regular maintenance to keep them safe and useable. Southampton City Council is responsible for maintaining the roads and pavements and we carry out planned roadworks at various locations across the city each year. The links on these pages give you the most up-to-date information about road and pavement works going on in the city. To find the latest current and planned roadworks that are updated every day click on the links on the right hand side. To use the Roadworks Map hover your cursor over the map and click on the required area for more information. The links below contain a list of major route road works.

These pages also contain links to the ROMANSE sites, which contain traffic and travel information for Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton and instructions on how to report a road or pavement fault online.

Gritting

Southampton City Council grit the highway network to help the safe movement of all highway users, buses, cyclists, motorists and pedestrians in certain weather conditions.

Spillages on the road

The council deal with spillages on the highway that could cause an immediate hazard to users or to the environment. For example an oil or diesel spillage or other material falling from a vehicle onto the road.
