Southampton City Council's second Local Transport Plan (LTP2), was submitted to Government in March 2006 and will cover the period 2006-11.

Under the terms of the The Environmental Assessment of Plans and Programmes Regulations 2004 (the SEA Regulations, Statutory Instrument 2004, No 1633), a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) was prepared for the LTP2.

The purpose of the SEA was to examine the policies of the provisional LTP2, and to determine alternative solutions for these policies that would have the least environmental consequences once implemented in the final LTP2. This was partly done through a six week consultation period where statutory bodies and other stakeholders were consulted throughout the SEA process.
