Pre-journey planning tips

  • Before you leave, check for live updates of car park spaces available in the city centre.

  • If you already regularly shop in the city centre, why not visit IKEA as part of one of your normal trips.

  • If possible, try and visit IKEA at quieter periods, such as the evenings.

  • Think about using public transport

  • If you've parked at IKEA, remember other city centre shops are only a short walk away. You don't need to move your car.

1. Arriving by Car

For people travelling by car to the IKEA store, the recommended route into Southampton is via the Western Approach dual carriageway. From the M3 and M27 Motorways, follow direction signs for “West Quay”, which will take you to West Quay Road, where the store is located. Additional temporary signing will also be provided when the store first opens on key routes in the city.

The entrance to the IKEA store car park is directly from a new junction on West Quay Road. The car park has 900 spaces, a collection point for bulky goods and spaces for high sided vehicles on the ground floor. If the IKEA car park is full, there are a number of alternative public car parks a short walk away and these are shown on the map above. Traffic signs in West Quay Road provide directions to these car parks and up to date information on the number of available spaces.

2. Arriving by Train

Southampton Central is a short walk from the IKEA store and has frequent train services to and from a wide range of destinations. Leave the station by the exit from Platform 4 and follow the route shown on the map above.

The National Rail Enquiries website provides timetable information for all trains serving Southampton Central. Links to the various train operators running services to Southampton Central are shown on the right.

3. Arriving by Bus

A wide range of bus services provide access into the city centre from all parts of Southampton and the surrounding area. The nearest bus stops to IKEA are located in Portland Terrace / Castle Way / Bargate Street outside the entrance to the West Quay Shopping Centre. From here, it’s a short 5 minute walk down the ramp alongside the outside of the West Quay Shopping Centre to Harbour Parade, where a direct pedestrian entrance is available into the IKEA store. This route is shown on the map above.

Traveline (Tel: 0871 200 2233) provides comprehensive timetable information for all bus services.

5. Arriving by Ferry

Ferry services from the Isle of Wight and Hythe arrive at Town Quay. IKEA is a 10 to 15 minute walk from Town Quay or alternatively, catch the free Citylink bus to West Quay and the store is 5 minutes walk away.
