If you are a European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizen, you and your family will be able to apply to get either settled or pre-settled status.
This will mean you can continue living in the UK after 31 December 2020. You will have until 30 June 2021 to apply for either settled or pre-settled status.
Southampton Registration Services is one of the local authorities supporting EU, EEA and Swiss citizens complete the ID verification part of the process.
Who can apply?
Information on who is required to apply for pre-settled or settled status can be found on the GOV.UK website.
There will be no change to current rights under EU law until the end of the planned implementation period on 31 December 2020.
You will need a compatible phone or tablet if you want to scan your identity document yourself, this can be your own phone or tablet or someone else’s.
If your mobile phone or other device does not have near field communication (NFC) you can bring your ID document to us, where it can be scanned and verified for you. You will then be able to make an application for pre-settled or settled status.
We will not need to keep your ID document and in most cases you should not be asked to send your passport anywhere else during your application for pre-settled or settled status.
If you wish to use the EU Settlement scanning and verifying service, please feel free to use our walk in service. The service is offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 9.00 - 11.00am, and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons 2.30 - 3.30pm.
Please do not apply online before you visit us, as we will be unable to complete the service for you once you have applied online.
What to bring to your appointment
- Your current valid biometric EU, EEA or Swiss passport
- OR your valid biometric residence card (BRC issued by the Home Office) for family members of EU, EEA or Swiss citizens
- Your mobile phone to receive a text message
Only the ID documents listed above can be checked by us. If you do not have one of these ID documents then please refer to GOV.UK's EU Settlement Scheme pages to review your options.
The cost of the EU Settlement Service is £14 per person (card payment only).

UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services
From 9 November 2018, the majority of customers will complete their applications online then attend one of 57 new service centres in the UK named UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services, managed by a commercial partner, Sopra Steria. Customers will attend an appointment at a service centre to submit their biometric information (photo and fingerprints), and supporting evidence (including proof of identity). Assisted Digital Service
UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) have set up an Assisted Digital support service that is available to customers who do not have the appropriate access, skills or confidence to complete an online application form. The Assisted Digital Service aims to ensure that nobody is excluded from making an immigration application due to lack of digital skills or access to a computer. Eligible customers are offered telephone support, or face to face support at a library or their home, to help them access and complete the online form.
