Demolition of buildings in Southampton and Eastleigh

The Building Control Service controls demolition work. After a Notice of Demolition is submitted, we will issue a Counter Notice detailing any measures to be undertaken and will visit the site to ensure that precautions are in place to safeguard the public.

Before you make a demolition application

If you are undertaking demolition work you must provide Building Control with notice of certain stages of the work. These are as follows:

  • At least 48 hours notice must be given before disconnecting, sealing or removing drains and sewers on the site
  • At least 24 hours notice must be given before making good disturbed ground
  • Notice of demolition is not required where the volume of the building to be demolished is less than 50 metres squared

Planning permission may also be required for demolition work.
