Extra rates relief for small businesses
As a small business owner you may be aware that the Government has introduced a new system of billing for business rates.
To help with the change, the Government have made a total of £720,000 in subsidies available to those small businesses who will be most affected.
How much are the subsidies worth?
The relief will be made available over the next four years with the majority being made available in the first year. Southampton City Council have been awarded the following amounts:
- £420,000 in 2017/18
- £204,000 in 2018/19
- £84,000 in 2019/20
- £12,000 in 2020/21
Those businesses that qualify will have their rates reduced by up to:
- Up to £1000 for the period 1 April 2017 to 31 March 2018
- Up to £500 for the period 1 April 2018 to 31 March 2019
- Up to £300 for the period 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020
- Up to £50 for the period 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021
Shop owners in district centres
If you are a rate payer for a qualifying shop in Bitterne, Portswood, Shirley or Woolston. Additional targeted support will be made available so that your business rates will be reduced by:
- £2000 in 2017/18
- £1000 in 2018/19
- £600 in 2019/20
- £100 in 2020/21
