Family hubs - school readiness

Getting ready to start reception year at school can be exciting but also challenging for young children. They will need to learn how to adapt to the school environment such as playing with others, eating with a knife and fork and getting into a routine of getting ready for school on time.

At the Family Hub, we run School Readiness sessions during the summer months. These family sessions are designed specifically to support children with getting ready to start school.

The sessions will cover topics such as:

  • Listening and understanding
  • Sharing and turn taking
  • Eating with a knife and fork
  • Using the toilet
  • Getting dressed and undressed
  • Keeping to a routine

There will be experienced professionals to help support you with these topics and others.

Family Hub staff and parent reading to young child

We have a series of videos on YouTube around school readiness, sharing ideas for developing speech, playing with others and going to the toilet at school. You can find the playlist at Family Hub - School Readiness.

School Readiness will run on two sessions on the same day each week. No need to book, just drop in.
