We are currently reviewing all empty homes in our area that are listed as long term empty. The review is happening to support the government's initiative to tackle the housing shortfall.

We are working with a company called Capacitygrid who will carry out the review, if you have an empty home Capacitygrid may write to you to find out the current status of the property.

Why have I been sent a letter?

The council has a legal duty to maintain accurate records for billing and collection of Council Tax. The purpose of the letter is to make sure our records are correct.

Who are Capacitygrid?

Capacitygrid is a specialist public sector service provider that works with local authorities to conduct a review of empty properties. Capacitygrid is the trading name of Liberata UK Ltd (Registered in England and Wales – No 1238274).

Has Capacitygrid got authority to carry out the review for Southampton City Council?

Yes - In accordance with The Local Authorities (Contracting Out of Tax Billing, Collection and Enforcement Functions) Order 1996 the council may use a contractor to take measures to find out if premises are accurately recorded for billing and collection of Council Tax.

What will Capacitygrid do with any information I provide?

Information obtained by Capacitygrid and its review partners during the course of the empty homes review will be shared solely with Southampton City Council. Capacitygrid is fully compliant with the Data Protection Act 2018.
