The Watch Your Step initiative was launched in response to the concerns of local residents about dog walkers who fail to clean up after their pets.

Street-specific reports of dog fouling problems are used to help identify ‘hot-spot’ areas to be targeted by the Watch Your Step team. These operations are jointly coordinated by the parks and street cleansing service and Hampshire Police.

We target specific ‘hot spot’ areas throughout the city. Our prominent on-street signs promote responsible dog ownership and highlight the penalties of failing to clear up after their pets. Council officers and community police work with the residents to highlight the problems caused by dog fouling and remind dog walkers to pick up after their dogs. £75 fixed penalty notices can be issued to irresponsible dog owners who refuse to clean up after their pets.
