Our empty homes: doing things better

What is happening and why?

We realise there are better ways to manage our empty council homes, from getting them ready sooner, to improving the experience when you move into your new home.

So, we've launched a programme of improvements to make things better. The changes will be made over the next 12 months, and we'll be asking for your feedback as the improvements are implemented.

Improved inspections

We will ensure your home is of an acceptable standard when you move in.

What we are doing

  • We will carry out thorough inspections before tenants move out so we can let the home sooner
  • We will review our 'moving out standard' to ensure our homes are in good condition
  • We will continually update the way we deal with major works (structural works, adaptations etc.) to let homes sooner

Improved online experience

We will ensure the latest information about our empty homes is accurate.

What we are doing

  • We will upload a wider range of photos and better descriptions of empty homes
  • We will improve the Homebid website to make it easier for you to find your home
  • We will ensure clear guidance is available on how to bid for one of our homes

Improved viewing

We will ensure there are different ways of communicating with you when viewing your potential home.

What we are doing

  • We will ask you how you would like to be kept informed
  • We will ensure you have an accompanied, viewing opportunity of your potential home
  • We will ensure viewings are handled in a consistent way

Improved service

We will listen to, and act on, feedback to improve our service.

What we are doing

  • We will use 'Tenants Tell Us' (online survey) to capture your feedback. (Remember, you can sign up to comment on all aspects of the Housing Service.)
  • We will work with you to improve the way we deliver our service

Look out for more information about our improvements on posters, online and in Tenants' Link.
