No one wants to spend money unnecessarily, and we could all do with a bit of extra cash in our pockets, so we’ve put together some simple ways to save you money instantly. And the good news is, that by reducing your energy you'll also be helping to save the environment as well as your bills.
Lights out – As lighting makes up around 7% of the electricity we use in our homes, it makes good financial sense to turn off lights when you can. Get in the habit of flicking off the light switch as you walk out a room and you’ll soon see your energy bills drop.
Light up – Cut your electricity bill by switching to low-energy lightbulbs which use less electricity and last up to 12 times longer.
Watch your chargers – Use the correct charger for your device and remember to unplug mobiles, tablets and laptops as soon as they are fully charged to help to prolong battery life and save energy and money. As many fires caused by chargers happen at night time, it’s much safer to charge your devices during the day while you are awake.
Hold the water – Running the tap while brushing your teeth wastes six litres of water a minute per person. Stop money escaping down the plughole by simply turning off the tap while you brush. And wash your fruit and vegetables in a bowl rather than under a running tap to further save water and money.
Careful with your kettle – If you fill the kettle right up whenever you make a cuppa you're wasting money and energy. Save up to a third of the energy simply by filling the kettle just to the level you need.
