School escorts accompany children and young people (clients) with learning, physical and behavioural needs whilst they travel between their home and educational placements, ensuring their welfare needs are met with due regard to their safety at all times.
If you are successful in your application to become a school escort, your main duties would include:
- Primary responsibility for the supervision of clients travelling between their home and educational placements
- Maintaining good levels of communication with the clients, the office team, school staff and parents over issues relating to the child and their journey
- Ensuring the highest levels of welfare and safety are maintained for the clients at all times
On your application form, please ensure that you give the names and contact details (including email addresses where possible) of two people who are prepared to give you a reference. One must be your current or previous employer and the second person should have known you for more than six months. If you do not have a current or previous employer then two personal references may be acceptable providing they have known you for more than two years.
Please note that later in the application process the council will need to undertake an enhanced DBS check (formerly known as a CRB check). The council will also require you to fill in a detailed medical questionnaire to establish your suitability for any physical demands of the job.
