Changes to library loan & renewal policies

Please be aware from Monday 1 April 2019 the following changes were introduced

  • The number of items customers can borrow will reduce from 30 items down to 20 items
  • The number of times items can be renewed will be limited to 24 renewals

What does this mean for customers?

Customers with 20 items or fewer on loan or customers with fewer than 24 renewals per item, by Saturday 30 March 2019 will not be affected by the changes.

Customers with more than 20 items on loan or customers with 24 renewals or more per item, are kindly asked to return those items to the library by Saturday 30 March 2019 to make sure they are within the new limits as set out above.

Please note from Monday 1 April 2019

  • Any items over the 20 item limit cannot be renewed and will incur fines
  • Any items with 24 renewals or more cannot be renewed and will incur fines

Customers with a group library card or those who borrow items on behalf of someone else are exempt from the changes. These include:

  • Reading Groups
  • Basic Skills Tutors
  • Housebound
  • Childcare
  • Adult Concession

Why are we doing this?

This move will bring us closer in line with other library services and encourage the return of stock that has been on loan for a long period of time.

Additionally it will result in more items being available for customers to borrow.
