To approve as a correct record the minutes of the meeting held on 10 February 2025, attached.

 

Minutes:

RESOLVED: that the minutes for meeting on 10 February 2025 be approved and signed as a correct record.

2.

NASACRE update

To receive feedback from attendees at NASCRE online events.

Minutes:

It was noted that NASCRE had been granted Charity Status.  Members were informed that this shouldn’t really affect local interactions with the national body and that it was still offering a variety of information and courses that members may wish to participate in.  

 

Members confirmed that the Chair would be attending the annual general meeting of NASCRE  in June.

To discuss the forthcoming monitoring programme and receive finalised versions of the online monitoring forma and terms of reference.

Members confirmed that the forms circulated with the agenda , that were amended at the previous meeting, should be used to undertake the  monitoring of school websites. 

 

The Chair outlined the process of monitoring for the remainder of the academic year and for the forthcoming year.  It was noted that the process of monitoring was being reset in the current year and that the intention was to build toward a full monitoring programme for the 26-27 academic year.

 

Members agreed with model of a small group that would initially include Susie Underwood, Richard Wharton, Mary Wallbank and Inam Sayfullah.  to review the websites of schools.

4.

Membership recruitment update

To discuss the recruitment of new members.

Minutes:

Members reviewed the current membership list, noting that there were a number vacancies.  It was explained that it was hoped that new membership for the position of representation from the Sikh community would be shortly resolved. 

 

Members were asked to seek nominations for vacancies within there groups.  The Chair explained that the NASCRE handbook would be circulated to all members to refresh members of the role of the council.

 

5.

Annual Report Update

Minutes:

Members noted that the annual report was in production and would be prepared to be sent off to the shortly to the department of education.

 

It was explained that the format of the report had been adjusted to match the criteria of the national association and would be presented at the next meeting.  

6.

National and Regional Pressures and Opportunities

 

To discuss

 

1)  Potential effects of devolution process;

2)  The National Curiculum; and

3)  Agreed Syllabus conference.

 

Minutes:

Members were briefed on a number of issues including:

 

·  Any change that the forthcoming devolution may bring.  It was explained that any potential changes to the scope and area of Southampton SACRE were still unclear and Members noted that they would be fully briefed on any potential changes. 

·  The National Curriculum : it was noted that at present it was unknown whether there would be any changes that brought religious education studies into the main national curriculum as core topic.  It was noted that had been an interim review in March of this year and that the relevant section would be circulated to Members;

·  Agreed Syllabus Conference:  it was expected that this would proceed whilst the decision on the inclusion into the National Curriculum.  It was noted that it was expected that any review would not be such a deep review as that for the Living Difference.  The process of the review was discussed and members were encouraged to contact Silas Bingley to express their interest in taking part in it.

To receive feedback and updates from members of the SACRE on any events or training attended.

 

Minutes:

Members discussed the RE Networks project “Spirited Away” with a view to securing a potential venue whilst the Art Gallery undergoes renovations.
