    Biography:

Councillor Christopher Hammond is the Leader of Southampton City Council. He was elected to the role in 2018 following three years as Cabinet Member for Transformation and Sustainability portfolios. Christopher prioritises measures to unlock the potential of the city and tackle its biggest challenges, such as creating a sustainable council, investing in young people, building affordable and innovative homes, and halting our climate breakdown. Aged 32, Christopher is currently serving his third term as an elected Councillor.

Away from the Council, Christopher is a small business owner in Southampton, a Board Director on Solent Local Enterprise Partnership, a Cabinet Member for Environment on the Key Cities Group, and a Board Member of the Local Government Association’s Environment, Economy, and Transport forum.

Born and raised in Dagenham in East London, Christopher was the first of his family to graduate from University, after which he worked as a race equality advocate and governance and risk manager for Nationwide Building Society. Christopher holds a degree from Bournemouth University, which has named him its 2019 Alumni of the Year.
