THE DECISION

 

Having read the report, including its recommendations and proposals, and following consideration of all other relevant matters, the decision-maker made the following decision.

To approve the proposals / recommendations contained in the report

 

 

without modification as set out below. 

 

 

 

(i)             That the responses from the consultation with schools, neighbouring authorities and the Admissions Forum be noted: and

(ii)            That the co-ordinated admissions scheme for secondary admissions for September 2004 and the deferred entry scheme for Reception Year admissions form September 2004, as set out in Appendices A and B respectively, be approved

 

REASONS FOR THE DECISION

 

 

 

The Education Act 2002 and the new Code of Practice on School Admissions (February 2003) lay down a recommendation that LEAs implement a co-ordinated admissions scheme for secondary admissions for September 2004 (prior to a legal requirement from September 2005).  They also lay down an expectation that LEAs offer parents a chance to defer entry to Reception Year (Year R) for their child until later in the academic year.  It is therefore recommended that the proposed schemes be approved for implementation for the academic year 2004/5.

 

DETAILS OF ANY ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS CONSIDERED AND REJECTED

 

 

 

As this reports describes schemes required by statutory legislation and as these schemes require council approval, there are no alternative options put forward.
