Celebrate Southampton Civic Centre as the Headquarters for the US Army on D-Day

We the undersigned petition the council to ......relocate the plaque in the alcove of the Art Gallery celebrating the achievement of the 14th Major Port based at the Civic Centre during WW2 which was the headquarters for the US Army on D-Day and during Operation Overlord. It is presently hiding in plain sight above a doorway suggesting where the headquarters were located, when in reality they operated from the basement. This plaque is historically significant not simply because of the location but it also refers to the role played by Southampton in the liberation of Europe.

NOTES: (1)I am a qualified History teacher. (2)The correspondence regarding the location is in the City Archives which I have used to make a video which can be seen on YouTUBE.(3)Although Portsmouth claims to be the headquarters during Operation Overlord in his report Admiral Ramsay makes it clear the armada needed 'close and continuous control' which could not be provided from Southwick House.(4)Speaking in 1945 Major-General Sir Nigel Holmes said 'Without Southampton we could not have done D-Day'.
