Finally make Seagarth Lane a one way road

We the undersigned petition the council to turn Seagarth Lane a one way road making it safer for the students, residents, pedestrians and other vehicles.

For the safety of everyone, Seagarth Lane needs to be turned into a one way road.

It's a road that has a lot of traffic throughout the day but even more so in the mornings and afternoons.

There are arguments between drivers almost daily, parents driving on the pavements (narrowly avoiding pedestrians) and most mornings it is utter chaos.

We believe that making Seagarth Lane a one way road would prevent potential accidents, limit the stress from road users and make the street much safer.

One day there will be a bad accident - we already know where, it's just a matter of when.

Most parents and residents have all witnessed arguments, dangerous driving and near misses on this road so please sign this petition to help improve the local area and make this street safer for everyone.

Council response

Thank you for taking the time to present your petition for a 20mph speed limit in the streets listed, and bringing this to the attention of Southampton City Council.

In November 2021, the Council launched a formal residents request process for 20mph speed limits. The deadline for submitting requests closed on 14th January 2022. Following the deadline, officers reviewed all the formal requests received. The strength of local support (including e-petitions), and support from ward councillors was considered alongside other matters such as traffic data and the feasibility of 20mph limits areas/boundaries, to come up with a list of areas to progress, drawing upon the new £1million budget allocation.

In total, the Council received requests demonstrating community support for 47 streets or areas. All these have been consolidated into 14 areas which will be individually consulted over the next two years through to the end of 2023.

A list of the areas and a map can be found on the dedicated 20mph webpage: https://transport.southampton.gov.uk/20mph . There is also a useful Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section on the webpage, which can help answer any queries on the process and next steps.
