Oaktree, St Catherine’s and Dimond Road are almost entirely residential roads. Often used as a cut through to access Woodmill, Townhill Park and portswood.
Bus stops on this road are used daily by school children accessing Bitterne Park School and families walking to the park and primary school on the adjoining road.
2021 has seen over 6 RTCs on these roads, especially at the Dimond/ Oaktree intersection where accidents (including bus accidents) have smashed the bus stop (luckily no one was waiting for the bus!).
We believe that a 10MPH reduction in the speed limit in this residential area will reduce the risk to pedestrians and other road users especially as these roads are sat between 2 schools.

Thank you for taking the time to present your petition for a 20mph speed limit in the streets listed, and bringing this to the attention of Southampton City Council.
In November 2021, the Council launched a formal residents request process for 20mph speed limits. The deadline for submitting requests closed on 14th January 2022. Following the deadline, officers reviewed all the formal requests received. The strength of local support (including e-petitions), and support from ward councillors was considered alongside other matters such as traffic data and the feasibility of 20mph limits areas/boundaries, to come up with a list of areas to progress, drawing upon the new £1million budget allocation.
In total, the Council received requests demonstrating community support for 47 streets or areas. All these have been consolidated into 14 areas which will be individually consulted over the next two years through to the end of 2023.
A list of the areas and a map can be found on the dedicated
20mph webpage: https://transport.southampton.gov.uk/20mph
. There is also a useful Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) section
on the webpage, which can help answer any queries on the process
and next steps.
