In 2023 two large pieces of play equipment catering for older children were removed from the play area at Portswood Rec. A roundabout that remains is regularly jammed and cannot be turned by children. The carpet flooring has been in place for 30 years, repaired numerous times and splitting at the seams and repair sites. It is an unsafe trip hazard. The play area is popular, particularly with children from the neighbouring school, but new equipment and surfacing would provide a better, safer more stimulating play experience for children helping them build resilience by encouraging exercise and social interaction, benefitting their health, wellbeing, physical and mental development
