Southampton secures £500k to help residents stay warm this winter
The Environment Centre (tEC) in partnership with Southampton City Council have been awarded £500K funding through the British Gas Energy Trust Healthy Homes Programme to help vulnerable residents across the city who are struggling to keep warm and well in their homes.
This exciting project was launched on Friday 11th December 2015 at a well-attended event in the Civic Centre, with presentations given by Councillor Lewzey, Councillor Payne and Councillor Shields.
Southampton has a particular problem with cold, damp and draughty homes which are expensive to heat and which can cause the people who live in them to become ill. Severe or prolonged exposure to cold can even lead to premature death and can make many health conditions such as arthritis, breathing problems and rheumatism much worse.
Physical home improvements available to residents with specific health conditions include Solid Wall Insulation, cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, draft proofing and other energy efficiency measures*. tEC’s friendly and experienced advisors are able to attend a limited number of home visits to provide bespoke advice to vulnerable residents but their freephone advice line is available to anyone who wants information on keeping warm and well this winter.
Anyone interested in finding out more or would like to refer a family member, neighbour or client can reach the Southampton Healthy Homes team on 0800 804 8601(free from all major phone providers) or 023 8033 6172, or email email@example.com.
