Another successful Get Inspired careers fair
Companies across Southampton were invited to showcase their company and industry through an activity at this year's Get Inspired careers fair, giving young people and their parents an idea about future career options.
Activities included flying in an air ambulance through virtual reality; constructing a prism with spaghetti and marshmallows; making an ice cream sundae; and getting a photo of graduating from university.
Over 400 people attended the free event at O2 Guildhall Southampton, with young people aged 10–16 taking part in the range of interactive activities. Lisa, aged 14, commented: "It’s the first time I have come to anything like this. I enjoyed the activities and finding out about the companies."
Sotira Georgiou, a Design Engineer from Ramboll said: "The children were greatly involved in the activities and were asking lots of questions about their future. It was obvious that they thoroughly enjoyed it!"
Parents found the event was very informative as they themselves discovered careers and pathways they were not aware were available for their children. Karen Hayes, a parent said: "Thank you for putting this on. It's been brilliant. I didn't know many of these companies existed or the career opportunities there are."
This year's Get Inspired Southampton was sponsored by Ford, HSBC and Southampton City Council. The event is organised by EBP (Education, Business Partnership) South with the support of volunteers from Southampton City Council, City College Southampton and Richard Taunton 6th Form College.
