Get your bulky waste items recycled
Did you know that old beds, mattresses, sofas, electrical appliances or other bulky waste items, which are still in a good or usable condition can often be collected, free of charge, to be re-used? There are a number of charitable organisations around the city that can re-use or sell these items. The items needs to be in good condition and need to have been stored indoors or undercover. If it's an electrical appliance, it needs to be fully working and if it's an upholstered item it will need to have a red or blue fire label attached.
If the item complies with the above points, some charities will accept the items as a donation. A small charge may be made for collection, but some are free.
If an item is beyond saving, for a small fee, you can get it collected with our bulky waste collection service. This service can help you dispose of large household items that can't be disposed of through domestic waste collections. The service is only available to residential households of Southampton and is not for businesses to use. Bulky items, such as trampolines must be dismantled before collection, or you can take your oversize waste items to the Household Waste and Recycling Centre.
