Bassett Avenue reopened both ways ahead of schedule by 6am Friday 9 March
Phase one of the Bassett Avenue works, taking place between Winchester Road and Chilworth Roundabout, has been completed a few days ahead of schedule, despite the snow and ice last week. As a result Bassett Avenue will be reopened by 6am on Friday 9 March tomorrow morning.
Phase two of the work to resurface Bassett Avenue overnight will go ahead as planned from 8pm Monday 12 March. The resurfacing will require the full closure of Bassett Avenue in both directions between 8pm and 6am Monday to Friday for up to three weeks.
Cllr Jacqui Rayment, Cabinet Member for Transport at Southampton City Council, said:
"I would like to thank road users for their patience and understanding while we carry out what is essential improvement work to a key route into the city. That we are ahead of schedule despite the recent snow and ice is testament to the hard work the teams have been putting in over the last few weeks. We are committed to listening to what residents want and delivering our promises by investing in and improving our roads network."
