Services return to council management after 12-month transition period
We can today announce that the longstanding strategic partnership and contractual arrangement between Southampton City Council and Capita has come to an end. All services delivered by Capita on behalf of the City Council – including Revenues and Benefits, IT and Customer Services – have returned to council management after a 12-month transition period.
Both organisations recognise that the changes to working arrangement is timely and appropriate. The original contract was awarded in 2007 and, after 12 years, the context and time is right for services to be delivered directly by the council. Southampton City Council now have a solid foundation to further progress ambitious plans for the city and its residents in order to deliver its vision of being a city of opportunity where everybody thrives.
The council aims to maintain a strong relationship with Capita as a business in the city, particularly given our desires to be the most business friendly city in the south. We are pleased that Capita intend to continue their presence in Southampton, occupying one floor of our Guildhall Square office. Throughout the duration of the partnership, staff from both organisations have worked hard and shown loyalty and commitment to delivering a seamless public service to Southampton residents.
The council is delighted to welcome over 240 staff into the organisation today. Their positive attitude, knowledge and expertise is greatly appreciated. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Capita for the professionalism shown during our association, particularly during the complex transfer project that followed our decision to bring the services back in-house.
