Wrongful use of Blue Badge leads to conviction

Fine handed down following Parking Services investigation

Blue badge parking signThe daughter of a Southampton blue badge holder has been successfully prosecuted by Southampton City Council’s Parking Services team after wrongfully using the permit to obtain free parking.

Suzanne Wilson, 57, pleaded guilty to the charges by post and was ordered to pay £1225 in fines, £491.91 in costs, £50 compensation for the evaded parking fees, and a £30 victim surcharge by Southampton’s Magistrates court at a hearing on Friday 22 November.

An investigation in to the use of the permit revealed that Mrs Wilson used her mother’s blue badge to park in Gloucester Square car park in Southampton.

Service Director for Transactions & Universal Services at Southampton City Council, Mitch Sanders said: “Southampton City Council takes the misuse of blue badges seriously, and will take appropriate enforcement action when needed. It’s essential we maintain the integrity of the scheme and protect valuable parking spaces for genuine blue badge holders.”
