100 in 100 campaign aims to Get Southampton Moving

100 work opportunities to be filled in 100 days

Southampton City Council is launching a major drive across the city to secure 100 work opportunities for residents in 100 days.

Titled ‘100 in 100’, the campaign is another facet to the council’s Get Southampton Moving message and, following an end to the national lockdown, heralds a novel way to boost the local economy.

Organised by the Solent Apprenticeship Hub, for which Southampton City Council is the lead partner, the 100 in 100 campaign will be launched on 12 August at an event at the MAST Mayflower studios in Guildhall Square.

The scheme will promote the benefits of skills and training programmes to both residents and employers in Southampton. These benefits range from career progression and talent retention to productivity and business growth; with success stories showcased throughout the campaign to prove that skills and training programmes make a very real difference.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Growth, Councillor Jeremy Moulton, said: “As we emerge from the lockdown, it’s imperative we continue to champion initiatives to get Southampton moving. Access to skilled talent fuels the pipeline for business growth – that is why the 100 in 100 campaign will supercharge our economic recovery efforts.

“I would encourage businesses and residents to get involved in this campaign, access the support available from the Solent Apprenticeship Hub and help us reach this bold target, which when realised, will make a huge difference to both the individuals looking to secure long term employment and also the organisations that will benefit from the skills that their new staff members will bring to them.

“The ongoing work of the Hub provides essential support to small and medium sized enterprises and this scheme will up the ante once again, securing life changing long term career prospects at a time of great uncertainty for so many.”

Ross McNally, CEO and Executive Chair of Hampshire Chamber of Commerce, said: “The Hampshire Chamber of Commerce is proud to support the 100 in 100 campaign. A key factor behind the city’s projected economic success will be the skills and retention of its workforce. We all know the global importance of Southampton and the wide range of jobs and other work-related opportunities employers across the city are continuously generating.

“If ever there was a time to showcase this and secure local talent in the process, it is now. 100 in 100 gives the perfect platform to do this and the Chamber of Commerce will be working tirelessly to not just meet the ambition behind this campaign but to work with partners to exceed this.”

Sara Scott, Executive Director of MAST Mayflower Studios, said: “We are delighted that MAST Mayflower Studios is the venue to launch the 100 in 100 campaign. As a cultural hub for the city, MAST is committed to enabling new ideas, projects and partnerships to flourish and the 100 in 100 campaign is a perfect example of that.”
