Celebrating 25 years of Trees for Life

Over 60 families joined us on Saturday 23 November to celebrate the births of babies across the city this year

As part of our 25th year of Trees for Life, we planted 200 native trees at Green Park, Millbrook. Our annual event creates a wooded area for parents, grandparents and guardians to leave a lasting legacy for the new family.

The annual occasion has provided thousands of native trees across Southampton. Each year, local families come together and help the council with the commitment to making the area greener. This year's event also marked the start of National Tree Week, we're delighted to give our residents the opportunity to be involved in the UK's largest tree celebration.

Southampton currently has over 260,000 trees across the city, this is 18.5% tree canopy cover. We are lucky to have some of the best green open spaces in the County, with two local parks winning the prestigious Green Flag Award this year.

Councillor Steve Leggett, Cabinet Member for Green City and Environment at Southampton City Council, said: "The Trees for Life event is a unique day that we all enjoy. We are committed to making Southampton a cleaner, greener, healthier and more sustainable City. We want to encourage residents to plant more trees, not only to help clean the air we breathe and provide essential habitats for the wide variety of wildlife but to also create an attractive place to live, work and visit."
