Balfour Beatty is working in partnership with Southampton City Council to manage the highways service across Southampton.

Southern Gas Network (SGN) have informed us that there is a gas leak on the access road to Southampton City Depot and the Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC). The access road (as shown on the map below) will need be closed to enable the excavation of the area, during this time a signed diversion route will be in place from Third Avenue.

Traffic for the City Depot and HWRC will be managed by three-way temporary traffic lights and the one-way system suspended. We will be using the variable messaging boards on key routes to advise of possible delays in the area.

At present we are unsure how long these emergency works will take.

Vehicular access to the Docks will not be affected. Please avoid the City Depot HWRC for Thursday 2 and Friday 3, and if that is not possible, please use the other Hampshire HWRCs.

The nearest HWRCs are at Marchwood, Netley, Romsey, Fair Oak, Hedge End. However you will need to book. Same day booking is available.

Should you require further information regarding these works please contact SGN who will be able to answer your queries.
