Important update on waste collections from Councillor Fielker, Leader of Southampton City Council

The Leader of Southampton City Council provides an update on the current disruption to waste collections in Southampton

The Leader of Southampton City Council, Councillor Lorna Fielker"We are still experiencing disruption on household waste collections in patches of areas across the city. While we work to resolve the current situation, we are doing everything we can to clear backlogs and excess waste.

"In addition to work within the waste teams, our street cleansing teams are supporting us with clearing waste and litter on the street. Crews will be mobilised over the coming weekend to empty bins that were missed throughout the week. We are prioritising clearance of residual waste arising from missed bin collections, rather than mixed recycling.

"We understand how frustrating this is for residents and urge people to keep reporting their missed bin collections online. We ask that anyone whose waste has not been emptied to keep bins on the boundary of their properties until collected. Please ensure bin lids are closed. This is so that our crews can safely manoeuvre bins to the lorries. If you have excess waste, bag it up and place next to your closed bin, and it may be collected. Alternatively, please place it in your bin once it has been emptied.

"Once again, I apologise for the inconvenience caused to affected residents. Resolving the situation and getting your collections back to normal remains an absolute priority."
