The scheme, funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and run in collaboration with the company ‘EB Charging’ pays a 50% grant towards the leasing cost of a new electric taxi, or van up to the end of May 2023. The scheme will also involve engagement with drivers to support them in taking on a cleaner vehicle, as well as a series of new rapid charge points.

All licensed Southampton City Council taxi and private hire vehicle operators and drivers, and all business-owned LCVs are eligible to join the scheme, which will be operated by the council. The ERDF will fund up to 50% of the lease cost of electric taxis, minicabs and vans under the scheme until May 2023.

Registration and distribution of vouchers will be managed by Southampton City Council’s Green City department. Eligible drivers and operators should contact EV.Trial@southampton.gov.uk to register or visit EV trial for more information and to register.

EB Charging will be at the Big Green Event 2022 at the Guildhall and the Guildhall Square on Saturday 30 July, where drivers can find out more about the scheme and register their interest.
