Southampton Tall Buildings Study

This study, jointly commissioned with Historic England and published in May 2017, provides guidance related to City Centre Action Plan (CCAP) Policy 16 & 17 in respect of assessing the impact of tall buildings on strategic views of heritage assets.

The primary purpose of the document is to inform developers and designers on the importance of considering the views to designated heritage assets when developing proposals for tall buildings, to ensure that these views are appropriately respected and protected.

The study will be formally consulted upon as part of the Local Plan preparation process for Southampton City Vision, after which it will be formally adopted as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD). Although the guidance is specific to the city centre as defined in the CCAP, the general principles for assessing views are applicable city wide.
