Late school applications
If you are applying after the deadline, you will need to complete a late school place application. The application deadlines of each year are:
- Year R - 15 January 2024 at 23:59 (now closed)
- Year 3 - 15 January 2024 at 23:59 (now closed)
- Year 7 - 31 October 2023 at 23:59 (now closed)
Late applications are made, with limited exception, via a form on the Southampton City Council website. If you have confirmed the deadline has passed you can fill in the form on this page.
Please be aware that all on-time applications will be processed before late applications and schools may be filled by on-time applicants.

You won't be able to save this form to complete later, so please allow yourself up to 15 minutes to fill in the form.
What happens if I make a late change of preference?
If you have already submitted an application for your child and wish to apply for subsequent schools as a late change of preference, please note the following:
If you have been offered a second or third preference school
Where we are able to offer you a higher preference between 1 March (for secondary transfer), or 16 April (for primary and junior transfer), and 31 August 2024, this will automatically be made to you and the lower preference offer withdrawn.
If you have been offered any of your original preferences
Where you submit a late change of preference that can be offered, we will automatically offer the place.
We will not contact you and your original offer will be withdrawn.
If you do not wish for your child to be considered for any higher/original preference schools, please contact us with your child's name, date of birth, and schools you wish to be removed from as soon as possible.
