How to apply for mainstream school travel support
Once you have read the eligibility guidance for your child, you can apply for school travel support using our form.
What do I need to apply?
- Check your child meets the relevant eligibility criteria
- Read our frequently asked questions to help with the application
- Provide copies of relevant evidence to go along with your application, like faith or medical evidence
- Download and complete the school travel - Mainstream application form
Remember: Make sure to include the correct evidence or there will be a delay in the processing of your application
If you have any questions about completing the form, you can see our common questions below or you can contact us.
When do I need to apply?
Applications are processed from 1 June for the start of the next academic year. If you apply before this, we will hold onto your application and process it from this date.
If you apply after 10 August, we cannot guarantee that your child’s transport will be arranged by the start of the autumn term.
How do I apply?
Once you have filled in the form and included all relevant evidence, you can send us your application along with the evidence either:
- By email: travel.coordination@southampton.gov.uk
- By post: Transport Coordination Unit, Southampton City Council, Civic Centre, Southampton, SO14 7LY, including copies of any required evidence
What happens next?
Applications are normally processed within 10 working days of receiving your application.
If you have applied for season tickets, this will take another five to seven working days to arrive at your child's school.
What if my child’s application is rejected?
If we reject your application, we will contact you to tell you this and check with you whether any exceptional circumstances can be taken into account.
If we reject your application again, you can appeal the decision. Read more about how to make an appeal.
