Change of vehicle
If your resident parking permit is due to expire within 21 days, you can update your vehicle details when you renew your permit online instead.
Otherwise, you will need to complete a change of vehicle form.
Before you fill in this form
You won't be able to save this form to complete later, so please allow yourself 10-15 minutes to fill in the form.
You will need to provide the following documents - if you’re unsure on what type of proofs to provide, find out more about the types of documents we accept.
Permit number
Registration number and details of the current vehicle- Registration number and details of the new vehicle
A scanned copy of the new vehicle's V5 document
A printer - you can carry on without a printer but you will need one to print the temporary permit
Once your online application is submitted, you can print a temporary permit to display in your vehicle while your updated permit is being processed.
We aim to process your application within two working days of your request. Once we have processed your application, you should receive your updated permit for the remainder of the permit period in the post within seven working days. If you do not have the V5 document for the new vehicle, you will need to apply for a temporary permit.
If you are unable to change details online you can make an appointment to visit Gateway on 023 8083 2005, at the appointment, bring in your old permit and a copy of your new vehicle's V5C.
Alternatively, if you do not wish to make an appointment, you can visit Gateway and wait in the queue. However, priority is given to customers with an appointment and at busy times you may be required to wait.
Change of address
If you are moving out of your property, you will need cancel your old permit and apply for a new resident parking permit.
You can cancel your permit either:
- By post: you will need to include a written request to cancel along with your old parking permit and post it to Parking Services, Southampton City Council, PO Box 1098, Southampton, SO14 7WE
- At Gateway: you will need to bring in your old parking permit with you
Once you have done this, you can apply for a new permit at your new property using the online form. See apply for a new resident parking permit.
Warning: Section 115 of the Road Traffic Regulations Act, 1984
Provides penalties for any person who makes a false statement to obtain a permit or with intent to deceive, forges, or alters, or uses, or lends to, or allows to be used, or has in their possession any document so closely resembling any such permit as to be calculated to deceive.
Misuse of a parking permit is fraud. We will investigate all reports of the misuse of permits.
